Question: I am having a tough time selecting a backsplash for my kitchen. There is just so much to choose from in those tile showrooms, and so often they look so busy, and truthfully, trendy. I don't want to be dissatisfied in a few years. What is your take on this?
Phoebe's Answer: So often in decorating, we can get tied up in trying to do something new for no other reason than we feel compelled to do so. Much like wood floors, sisal rugs and neutral sofas, the classics rarely disappoint—especially for those larger and/or more permanent purchases. Very frequently, we use white or marble subway tile or the same marble we used for the counter as the backsplash. We've even used paneled (and painted) wood. Of course the style of your kitchen should dictate the selection, but we find these stand the test of time. Here are some examples from our projects:
