Question: We are remodeling our kitchen, and I'd like to put in wood floors but my husband and contractor both said not to because of water damage. I see wood floors in kitchens all of the time in magazines—what is your take on it?
Phoebe's Answer: We have put wood floors in kitchens for years without any trouble—including two of my personal kitchens. Tile or stone can be nice, but I definitely prefer wood if possible. Wood is also a little softer and easier on the legs when working in the kitchen for long stretches. If you do have a leak, as long as you clean up the water fairly quickly, the wood should be fine.
