Question: I am recovering some furniture, and I am struggling to decide about solid vs. patterned fabric. It seems like you use mostly solid, but also pattern now and again too. How do you decide which to use?
Phoebe's Answer: Generally speaking, I am a fan of solid upholstery, especially sofas. I feel that the lines of upholstery show better, and that you can add pattern in the form of curtains, rugs and pillows. Another reason I like solid sofas is that they won't compete with a painting that would be hanging above the sofa. But, I never say never, because prints can be used effectively on upholstery.
