Question: My living room has very high ceilings, and I keep hearing I need to buy really tall furniture (like armoires, etc) to balance the space. How do you handle this challenge for clients?
Phoebe's Answer: One of the biggest decorating mistakes I see my clients make is scaling the furniture up for the height of the ceiling. You actually need to do the opposite to try to add intimacy and human proportion and scale. Just arrange the furniture to serve whatever purpose you need for the room, and make sure it is comfortable, and do not pay any attention to the height of the room as far as furnishings go.
