Question: I love the idea of buying quality antique furniture, but I don't know where to begin. It all seems so expensive, so I am wondering if you have a piece of furniture you recommend as a starting point? Also, how do you know if something is worth the investment?
Phoebe's Answer: We think nothing can replace the patina of an
antique, and we always try to incorporate them into our stores and projects.
They can look great, especially in modern interiors. I usually advise to
start collecting by purchasing a chest - they are so versatile and easy to
place. Living rooms, foyers, dining rooms, bedrooms - the choices are plentiful.
Other good pieces to have are sideboards or secretary desks.
To us, all great rooms incorporate both new and old elements. Too many
antiques can certainly make a room frumpy, and also all new can cause a room to
fall flat. If purchased at a good price, antiques can sometimes also
be a good investment. Here are some examples of each of these antiques that we have used in our projects:

Antique Secretary Desks
