One of our favorite configurations for a family room is two sofas and two chairs arranged in a U shape around a large square ottoman. I call this "stadium seating." I think it is important to be able to spread out and be relaxed in a family room, so comfort is our first objective - always. For the adjoining sunny, sitting room, we arranged four club chairs around a round ottoman to function more as an area for conversation rather than TV-watching. This provides the family plenty of options for relaxation.
