Question: I noticed in the bedroom of the project recently published in House Beautiful that you used both sconces and lamps next to the bed. Can you tell us why you did that? Is there a functional purpose or did it just look pretty in the room?
Phoebe's Answer: Yes, I like to read in bed, and I like plenty of light options. Swing arm lamps are not enough, and bedside tables look better with lamps on them. It is important during construction that the junction boxes are placed in just the right spot, so drawing the bed and the lights in an elevation is a good idea. I also always advise for wall lights to be hard wired - it looks so much better. Here are some examples of when we have used both swing arm lamps and table lamps:
