Question: I rarely see the dresser in a bedroom photographed in magazines. Why is that? I am looking for ideas for how to decorate the top of mine, and I am coming up empty-handed!
Phoebe's Answer: You are right - usually the angle with the chest is not the most common to shoot, even in my own work. Also, chests are not always even in the bedroom. Many times with our clients, the closet accomodates drawers and shelves for the items one might keep in a chest of drawers. However, we still do use plenty of them in our projects. Much like how we decorate other things, we tend to keep these surfaces fairly simple and functional. Oftentimes, we place a lamp on the chest, as well as a box for holding the clients smaller items. Usually we top it off with one more object - maybe a plant or flowers or other decorative item. Most importantly, we like to keep these areas junk free. Don't load it up with a bunch of stuff. Clean, simple, beautiful is the way to go. Here are some examples from our work:
