One thing customers can always count on at Mrs. Howard and Max & Company is our interesting and unusual accessories. Inkwells certainly fall into that category, and antique inkwells make them even more special. Phoebe and Jim collect these delightful little objects during their travels throughout Europe, and our customers love finding them tucked away throughout the shop.
Most often, our inkwells are made of glass with brass or silver. They used to be for holding ink in a convenient place for the person using it. One would simply dip a brunch or pen into the ink and refresh as needed. A hinged or screwed-on lid was often present to prevent the loss of ink, whether by accident or through evaporation. Now, we simply use them as beautiful decoration in a room. On a desk or console, in a bookcase or etagere, or in a grouping on a coffee table, inkwells are simple accessories that simultaneously add sophistication and old-world charm.
